Practical Histories conference

We are delighted to be holding the fourth Practical Histories Conference at the University of Sussex on Saturday, 1 February, 2025.

The title of the Conference is: Engaging Students in their Historical Learning.

We chose this as a focus as this is exactly what we want to do!

As ever, the aim of this conference is to provide you with practical ideas that you can apply in your practice on the following Monday.

We are so excited to have lined-up some brilliant speakers who are happy to share their expertise, ideas and wisdom with you.

Speakers include:

Aaron Wilkes: OUP, Practical Histories co-founder, PGCE History Lead at the University of Warwick

Richard McFahn: Senior Lecturer in History Education at the University of Sussex, Practical Histories co-founder and History Resource Cupboard founder

Andrew Payne: Head of Education & Outreach – The National Archives of the UK

Elena Stevens: History Lead and T & L Research Lead at St Philip Howard Catholic School, Barnham

Helen McCord: UCL Centre for Holocaust Education

Paige Richardson: History Teacher and Head of Year at Hazelwick School

Victoria Crooks: Associate Professor in History Education, University of Nottingham

Laura London: Lecturer in Education and UEA


Keynote speakers are founders of Practical Histories, Aaron Wilkes and Richard McFahn

Aaron and Richard will be sharing their thoughts, research and ideas on: Engaging Students in their Historical Learning.

It will be hands on and active.


This is a non-for-profit conference. Prices have been kept as low as £10.
